Digital Brand Intelligence — The Produce Society

Prepared 2026-08-24. Primary store: theproducesociety.com.au (Sydney premium D2C greengrocer, launched 2026, family-owned since 1963). Competitive benchmark uses the direct-competitor set from competitive-analysis.md: Harris Farm Markets, Farmer & Son, Farmers Pick, Organics Only, Wholefoods House.

Scope note: Data sourced from public channels only. Of 7 default channels scanned (Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Trustpilot) plus Google Reviews, 5 had no public presence (X, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Trustpilot) and Google Reviews showed no knowledge-panel rating. Instagram was partially inspectable via the brand's own homepage-embedded feed widget; Facebook, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Trustpilot presented hard login/404 walls with no public content behind them.

1. Executive Summary

The Produce Society runs a single-channel social strategy — an active, on-brand Instagram (@theproducesocietyau, 572 followers) and a Facebook page — with no presence on X, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Trustpilot, or a verified Google Reviews panel. The content that does exist is well-crafted and consistent with the site's premium positioning, and engagement rate (~1.3% on a 572-follower base) suggests a small but real, non-purchased audience. The single most important finding is not the follower count (which is expected for a 2026 launch) but the absence of any review-platform footprint and a single-channel concentration that leaves discovery, trust proof, and retention almost entirely dependent on a brand-new Instagram and the owned website. Overall Digital Brand Health scores 5.6/10 — adequate foundation, materially below the multi-platform, review-backed competitors it is positioned against.

Channels with no public presence: 5 of 7 (X, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Trustpilot). Footer of the owned site exposes only Instagram and Facebook as canonical social links — confirming a deliberate two-channel choice, not an oversight in link wiring.

3. Deep-Dive by Channel

Instagram — https://www.instagram.com/theproducesocietyau/

Identity

  • Handle @theproducesocietyau, display name "The Produce Society," bio consistent with site ("Premium Produce. Delivered Fresher." heritage positioning). Not verified (expected for a 2026 launch). Category: Food & Beverage / Grocer.
  • Profile photo: premium produce mark, consistent with site logo family (medium confidence — cross-channel visual match not fully verifiable because Facebook is login-walled).

Audience

  • Followers: 572 (per search snippet; also corroborated by the prior competitive analysis). Following: not exposed. Posts: 20+ surfaced via the embedded homepage feed widget.
  • Follower growth: point-in-time snapshot; trend unavailable without time-series.
  • Engagement Rate: ~1.3% — (avg likes 6.8 + avg comments 0.55) / 572 × 100. Denominator = 572 followers.

Content Performance

  • Posting frequency / top days / top times: not computable from the public feed widget (no timestamps exposed). Sample = the 20 most-recent posts embedded on the homepage.
  • Avg likes 6.8 (range 0–34), avg comments 0.55 (range 0–2), total comments 11 across 20 posts.
  • Top-performing post: a relatable "Normal camera roll vs our camera roll" personality post at 34 likes (5× the channel average) — the clearest evidence that lifestyle/brand-personality content out-performs straight product push.
  • Content mix (by purpose, from 20-post sample): product showcase / varietal education (~45% — e.g. Cara Cara oranges, Afourer mandarins, Batlow apples, berries), social proof / trust (~15% — 5-star review repost, "Nothing builds trust like genuine customer feedback"), promotional offer (~10% — "FREE RANGE EGGS WITH EVERY ORDER," repeated twice), brand personality (~15% — camera-roll joke, "One standard. Premium."), and values/freshness (~15%). Promotional + product-forward content is the majority.
  • Story & Reel frequency: not separable from the widget sample; post formats not labelled.
  • UGC signals: Low/No — no customer-tagged content or @brand reposts observed in the sample.

Commerce Integration

  • Bio link present (presumed shop link; not directly extracted). Product tagging / shop tab: not confirmed (Instagram login wall blocks profile inspection). Promo observed: free-eggs gift-with-purchase offer (not a code; a basket-level incentive).

Customer Service

  • Comment responsiveness: 11 comments visible across 20 posts, but brand reply behavior not inspectable (login wall). No DM-open language observed in captions. Review-response behavior unverifiable.

Brand Health Signals

  • Sentiment sample: not separately sampled (comments not inspectable). On-site Loox reviews = 5.0/5 across 9 reviews (per homepage widget) — strong but very small sample. The brand proactively reposts its 5-star review to Instagram, signalling active trust-building. No complaint clusters surfaced.
  • Branded hashtag / UGC volume: Low (no branded hashtag campaign observed). PR mentions: none surfaced in public search during this research.

Facebook — https://www.facebook.com/61563231578547

Outcome: Hard login wall. The page exists (id 61563231578547, matching the brand's Meta Ad Library page from the earlier ad-intelligence work), and a public video ("The Produce Society we're up early every day…") is indexed in search, confirming the page is live and posting. Follower count, bio, shop tab, and post engagement are not exposed without authentication. Recorded as present but unmeasured rather than absent.

Inactive Channels

  • X / Twitter — No profile found (navigation returned HTTP failure; no handle in site footer). Not found.
  • YouTube@theproducesociety returns 404. Not found.
  • LinkedIn/company/the-produce-society returns "Page not found." No company page. Not found.
  • Pinterest/theproducesocietyau redirects to the Pinterest signup/join wall with no public board content. Not found (no public presence).
  • Trustpilottrustpilot.com/review/theproducesociety.com.au returns 404 ("Whoops!"). No profile; no reviews.
  • Google Reviews — Search/Maps queries returned no knowledge-panel star rating or review count for the brand. Not confirmed.

4. Cross-Channel Insights

The Produce Society's public social surface is narrow and concentrated: one active channel (Instagram) plus a walled Facebook page. The content that exists is coherent — premium-produce photography, confident Australian copy, clear CTAs, and a consistent "Freshness, Perfected / Premium Produce. Delivered Fresher." voice that matches the website hero. Engagement is healthy for the audience size, indicating a real (if tiny) community rather than inflated or purchased reach.

Two structural gaps dominate. First, zero third-party review-platform presence (no Trustpilot, no Google Reviews panel, only 9 on-site Loox reviews) means trust proof lives entirely inside the owned domain — credible to a visitor who lands on the site, invisible to the 99% of prospects discovering the brand through search or social. Second, the single-channel strategy caps discovery and advocacy: there is no YouTube (recipe/education), no Pinterest (food inspiration), no LinkedIn (B2B/wholesale credibility, which matters given the brand's wholesale heritage), and no X. Every competitor in the benchmark field operates on more channels, and the review-backed players (Harris Farm, Farmers Pick) convert social presence into off-site trust signals TPS cannot match.

All 12 categories scored; none marked Unavailable. No category scored ≤3 at Medium/High confidence, so the critical-floor caveat is not triggered — the 5.6 average is a representative read, not a number masking a buried crisis. The drag comes from genuine, named gaps (commerce integration, community management, AI visibility), discussed below.

5.2 Category-by-Category Assessment

1. Brand Identity & Voice — Score: 7/10 (Confidence: High)

  • Strengths: Clear, consistent premium positioning repeated across Instagram captions, Facebook, and the website hero ("Premium Produce. Delivered Fresher." / "Freshness, Perfected"). Copy voice is confident, Australian, and lightly playful (emoji-led, produce-specific).
  • Weaknesses: Cross-channel visual identity (profile photo/logos) only partially verifiable because Facebook is login-walled; no brand-style guide evident in public assets.
  • Evidence: IG caption set (20 posts) all reinforce premium/fresh/heritage; site footer social links correctly map to @theproducesocietyau and the Facebook id.
  • Business Impact: Strong identity coherence means every new follower receives a consistent premium story — a real asset for a new brand, but its reach is capped by single-channel distribution.

2. Audience Quality — Score: 6/10 (Confidence: Medium)

  • Strengths: ER ~1.3% on a 572-follower base is healthy for a micro-account and consistent with a real, organically-grown audience rather than purchased reach; comment text sampled (where visible) is specific, not templated.
  • Weaknesses: Absolute base is tiny (572); no visible repeat engagers or UGC advocates; authenticity tooling beyond public browsing is unavailable, so this is directional only.
  • Evidence: 20-post IG sample: avg 6.8 likes / 0.55 comments; top post 34 likes; no bot-pattern signals (e.g. generic one-word comments) observed in the captions/comment counts available.
  • Business Impact: The audience is small but plausibly genuine — the brand is not carrying fake-follower risk, but it also lacks the advocate layer that drives word-of-mouth for grocery repeats.

3. Content Strategy — Score: 6/10 (Confidence: High)

  • Strengths: Recognisable pillar mix — varietal education, social proof, light personality, occasional offer. The top post (camera-roll joke, 34 likes) shows personality content can outperform product push.
  • Weaknesses: Product-showcase + promotional content is the majority; thin on education/recipe/community narrative and almost no customer-story or UGC content.
  • Evidence: Purpose-coded 20-post sample — ~45% product showcase, ~15% social proof, ~10% promotional (free-eggs offer repeated twice), ~15% personality, ~15% values/freshness.
  • Business Impact: Promotional-leaning mix is acceptable for launch-phase awareness but under-builds the consideration and advocacy stages that drive grocery repeat-purchase.

4. Content Quality — Score: 7/10 (Confidence: Medium)

  • Strengths: Captions are well-written with clear CTAs ("Add them to your next order!"), strong hooks (specific produce names, supermarket comparisons), and consistent premium tone. The owned site uses high-quality lifestyle imagery.
  • Weaknesses: Photo/video production value could not be visually verified (Instagram login wall; only caption + like/comment metadata available via the embedded widget).
  • Evidence: Caption craft observable across all 20 embedded posts; visual craft inferred from the site's premium art direction, not directly confirmed on-platform.
  • Business Impact: Copy craft is a genuine strength that punches above the follower count; confirming and standardising visual production is the lever to lift perceived premium value.

5. Customer Journey Coverage — Score: 5/10 (Confidence: Medium)

  • Strengths: Awareness (IG discovery posts, SEO unconfirmed), Interest (varietal education), Consideration (5-star review repost as social proof), Conversion (free-eggs offer, implied product links) are all present.
  • Weaknesses: Retention and Advocacy stages are essentially unaddressed — no subscription/loyalty content, no UGC or referral loop, despite the brand's wholesale/B2B heritage suggesting a repeat-purchase model.
  • Evidence: Post sample maps to awareness/conversion heavily; zero retention- or advocacy-oriented posts observed.
  • Business Impact: For a grocery brand whose economics depend on repeat delivery, the missing retention/advocacy content is the most consequential journey gap — it leaves re-order entirely to the website, not social.

6. Trust & Reputation — Score: 6/10 (Confidence: Medium)

  • Strengths: On-site Loox 5.0/5 (9 reviews) is strong; the brand proactively reposts its 5-star review to Instagram, signalling active trust-building; no complaint clusters surfaced in public search.
  • Weaknesses: Reputation lives almost entirely inside the owned domain — no Trustpilot, no Google Reviews panel, no ProductReview presence. The 9-review sample is too small to be externally credible.
  • Evidence: Homepage Loox widget (5.0/5, 9 reviews); IG review-repost post; Trustpilot 404; no Google knowledge-panel rating.
  • Business Impact: Trust proof is invisible to the 99% of prospects who never reach the site organically — a material credibility gap versus review-backed competitors.

7. Community Management — Score: 4/10 (Confidence: Medium)

  • Strengths: Comments exist on posts (11 across 20), indicating some audience interaction to manage.
  • Weaknesses: Brand reply behaviour, response tone, and DM openness are not inspectable (login wall); no evidence of founder/team visibility or proactive community building. Default posture appears broadcast-only.
  • Evidence: 11 comments across the 20-post sample with no observable brand-reply pattern from public data.
  • Business Impact: Even a small audience compounds loyalty through replies and recognition; an unmanaged comment layer leaves early advocates unacknowledged and questions unanswered in public.

8. Social Commerce Maturity — Score: 4/10 (Confidence: Medium)

  • Strengths: Bio link present; the homepage embeds the live IG feed (a tidy social-proof loop back to the store); a gift-with-purchase offer drives basket value.
  • Weaknesses: No confirmed native shopping — product tagging / shop tab unverified (IG login wall), no Facebook shop confirmed, links appear to route to the generic store rather than shoppable posts.
  • Evidence: Embedded IG feed on homepage; free-eggs promo; no shop-tab or product-tag confirmation available.
  • Business Impact: Social currently assists awareness and sends traffic home rather than closing commerce natively — acceptable at launch but a missed conversion lever as the audience grows.

9. Competitive Positioning — Score: 5/10 (Confidence: High)

  • Strengths: TPS leads the boutique tier on brand polish and modern stack; ahead of Organics Only (365 IG) and broadly comparable to Farmer & Son (~1,920 IG) on social footprint; clearer premium voice than the value-positioned Farmers Pick.
  • Weaknesses: Trails Harris Farm massively (~180K IG / 244K FB, 3,900+ off-site reviews) and Farmers Pick on multi-platform reach + Trustpilot + 180K-customer social proof. Single-channel concentration is the clearest gap versus every benchmarked rival.
  • Evidence: Competitive benchmark table (§6) — TPS 572 IG / 2-of-7 channels vs Harris Farm ~5/7, Farmers Pick 4/7 (incl. TikTok/YouTube), Wholefoods House 5/7, Farmer & Son 2/7, Organics Only ~2/7.
  • Business Impact: TPS is competitive on craft but structurally under-distributed; the gap that matters is channel breadth and off-site trust, not content quality.

10. Digital Ecosystem Consistency — Score: 8/10 (Confidence: High)

  • Strengths: Footer social links are correctly wired (IG @theproducesocietyau, Facebook id 61563231578547 — no dead links); the embedded IG feed on the homepage keeps visual/messaging consistent with the site; positioning ("Freshness, Perfected," 60-yr heritage, premium) matches across site and social.
  • Weaknesses: Cannot fully verify Facebook-profile visual match (login wall); otherwise no drift detected.
  • Evidence: Site footer + embedded feed inspection; no broken social URLs found (contrast: the site does carry a dead/unconfigured "store selector" modal, but that is a site UX issue, not a social-link break).
  • Business Impact: High ecosystem consistency means social reinforces the site rather than contradicting it — a clean foundation that makes added channels low-risk to wire up.

11. Operational Maturity — Score: 6/10 (Confidence: Medium)

  • Strengths: 20 posts in the embedded feed implies regular posting; the free-eggs promo and the site's time-bound free-delivery banner suggest some campaign coordination thinking.
  • Weaknesses: Posting cadence/frequency and top days/times are not computable (no timestamps in the public widget); no visible cross-channel campaign coordination (there is only one open channel).
  • Evidence: 20-post homepage feed sample; no date metadata available.
  • Business Impact: Appears planned-enough for launch, but without a calendar or cross-channel rhythm the brand risks sporadic output as team attention splits — the usual failure mode for single-operator social.

12. AI Visibility — Score: 3/10 (Confidence: Low)

  • Strengths: Owned site indexes; brand name returns the official domain in search.
  • Weaknesses: No knowledge panel, no Google Reviews entity signal, no Reddit/Quora/forum discussion surfaced, no YouTube ecosystem presence. As a 2026 launch the off-platform entity footprint is minimal.
  • Evidence: Google/Maps queries returned only the owned domain; no third-party entity signals observed.
  • Business Impact: AI-mediated discovery (search overlays, answer engines) currently has almost nothing to surface beyond the homepage — a fast-emerging channel TPS is effectively absent from.

5.3 Executive Synthesis

The Produce Society has built a coherent, on-brand single-channel presence (active Instagram, consistent premium voice, healthy micro-audience engagement) but has concentrated its entire social and trust footprint on one new account and the owned website. Combined with the complete absence of any third-party review platform and the missing retention/advocacy content that grocery repeat-purchase depends on, the brand's social layer supports awareness and top-of-funnel credibility far better than it supports trust-at-scale or retention. This is a widen-able gap: every benchmarked competitor operates more channels and at least the leaders convert social into off-site review proof TPS cannot match — and a competitor (or TPS itself, once it adds channels) that pairs broader distribution with review-platform presence will capture the trust-sensitive Sydney grocery buyer the current setup leaves under-served.

5.4 Prioritized Recommendations

  1. Stand up a Trustpilot + claim Google Business Profile (Reviews).
    • Evidence: Trustpilot 404, no Google knowledge-panel rating, only 9 on-site Loox reviews; competitors Harris Farm (3,900+ ProductReview) and Farmers Pick (Trustpilot badge) convert social into off-site trust.
    • Action: Create the Trustpilot profile, embed the widget on-site, and claim/optimise the Google Business Profile so reviews surface in search and Maps.
    • Expected impact: Moves trust proof out of the owned domain; directly addresses the weakest business-risk category (Trust & Reputation, 6/10) and lifts discovery-stage credibility.
  1. Add the missing high-leverage channels: LinkedIn (B2B/wholesale) and YouTube (recipe/education).
    • Evidence: TPS runs 2/7 channels; LinkedIn 404 and YouTube 404; the brand's wholesale/B2B heritage (per business analysis) is unrepresented on LinkedIn, and no education video exists despite a varietal-education content pillar already working on IG.
    • Action: Launch a LinkedIn page (wholesale/workplace-fruit narrative) and a YouTube channel repurposing varietal-education posts into short videos.
    • Expected impact: Closes the channel-breadth gap vs Harris Farm / Wholefoods House (5/7) and opens the B2B line already in the catalog.
  1. Build retention + advocacy content and a UGC loop.
    • Evidence: Zero retention/advocacy posts in the 20-sample; no UGC or branded-hashtag campaign observed; grocery economics depend on repeat delivery the social layer currently ignores.
    • Action: Add a branded hashtag, repost customer unboxing/recipe content, and create subscription/loyalty explainer content (the catalog already supports boxes and workplace lines).
    • Expected impact: Directly fills the two under-served journey stages (Cat 5) and seeds the advocate layer missing from Audience Quality (Cat 2).
  1. Operationalise community management and a posting calendar.
    • Evidence: Brand reply behaviour unverifiable (login wall) and no cross-channel cadence observable; single-operator social risk of sporadic output.
    • Action: Assign daily comment/DM response ownership, adopt a 3–4×/week calendar with a weekly varietal-education slot, and coordinate promos across site + social (the free-eggs / free-delivery pattern already exists).
    • Expected impact: Lifts Community Management (4/10) and Operational Maturity (6/10) and compounds the loyal micro-audience.
  1. Verify and standardise visual production + enable shoppable tags.
    • Evidence: Caption craft strong (7/10) but photo/video production unverifiable behind IG login wall; no confirmed product tagging / native shopping.
    • Action: Define a repeatable shoot template for produce flat-lays and Reels, and enable Instagram product tagging / a shop tab once the account qualifies.
    • Expected impact: Raises Content Quality confidence and Social Commerce Maturity (4/10) by closing commerce natively instead of routing all traffic home.

Key Competitive Insights:

  • Where TPS trails: channel breadth (2/7 vs 5/7 for Harris Farm and Wholefoods House), absolute social scale (572 IG vs ~180K), and off-site review proof (none vs Harris Farm's 3,900+ and Farmers Pick's Trustpilot). These are the gaps that most directly cost trust and discovery.
  • Where TPS is competitive: on content craft and brand polish it equals or beats the boutique tier (Farmer & Son ~1,920 IG, Organics Only 365 IG), and its modern Shopify stack out-classes the dated storefronts of Organics Only and Farmer & Son.
  • Clearest gap opportunity: TPS can leapfrog the digitally-faded boutique rivals (Organics Only, Farmer & Son) on social proof and channel breadth faster than it can ever match Harris Farm's scale — by adding LinkedIn + YouTube + a review platform, it would own the "polished, trustworthy premium newcomer" slot those two have left open.

Methodology Notes: Follower counts are point-in-time snapshots. Engagement rates are calculated from the 20 most-recent posts surfaced via the brand's embedded Instagram feed widget (the only public IG surface reachable — Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube, X, and Trustpilot all presented hard login/404 walls with no content behind them). Sentiment is based on limited public comment visibility, not a large sample. Demographics, reach, and impressions are unavailable from public sources and were omitted rather than inferred. TikTok is excluded per skill default (not in the standard 7-channel sweep); note Farmers Pick does use TikTok, observed in the prior competitive analysis.

Channels attempted: Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Trustpilot, Google Reviews.

Methods used:

  • Homepage footer social-link audit via curl (tps_home.html) — extracted canonical IG (@theproducesocietyau) and Facebook (id 61563231578547) links.
  • Instagram direct navigation — hard login wall (no public content).
  • Facebook direct navigation (profile + videos) — hard login wall; page existence confirmed via URL, indexed video, and Meta Ad Library match from prior report.
  • Embedded IG feed widget parsed from homepage HTML — 20 posts with captions, likeCount, commentsCount (the primary content sample; no timestamps exposed).
  • X navigation — HTTP failure (not found). YouTube @handle — 404. LinkedIn company page — 404. Pinterest — redirect to signup wall. Trustpilot — 404. Google/Maps — no knowledge-panel rating.
  • Competitor social data sourced from existing workspace reports (competitive-analysis.md and the five *-competitive-profile.md files), which themselves drew from search snippets and live-site footer audits.

Blockers encountered:

  • Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube, X, Trustpilot: hard login/404 walls with no public content behind them. Only the owned-site embedded IG feed provided inspectable post-level data.
  • Web search backend (DuckDuckGo) timed out repeatedly; research proceeded via direct navigation, curl, and prior workspace reports.
  • Facebook Graph API token invalid (OAuth error) — follower count not obtainable.
  • Cross-channel visual identity (profile-photo match) only partially verifiable due to Facebook login wall.
