Master CRO & Conversion Rate Optimization Audit — The Produce Society

Site: https://www.theproducesociety.com.au/ Prepared: 2026-08-24 Scope: Synthesis of page-level audits (Homepage, PLP, PDP, Cart & Checkout, Support & Utility) with business/device context from business-analysis.md. Method: Findings below are drawn from live-store page audits (pageaudit/*.md) and the business analysis. Where a behaviour could not be visually verified (notably mobile rendering, which no tooling in this environment could emulate), that limitation is stated rather than assumed.

A note on what this report is. This is a heuristic, evidence-driven evaluation of the customer-facing journey. It observes only what a visitor can see and do. Where the brand may have strategic reasons for a particular implementation, that is acknowledged. Findings are framed as hypotheses about customer behaviour to be validated through analytics, recordings, and testing — not as absolute verdicts.

1. Executive Summary (SCQA Format)

Situation: The Produce Society is a Sydney family-owned D2C premium greengrocer built on 60+ years of produce heritage (since 1963), selling ~200 SKUs of fruit, vegetables, herbs, eggs and curated boxes ($75–$150) plus Workplace Fruit (B2B) and Wholesale enquiry lines. The brand presents a clear, premium value proposition ("Premium Produce. Delivered Fresher."), strong heritage storytelling, an authentic Instagram content engine, and a well-organised navigation with working filters and sort. It runs a clean, responsive Shopify stack (Loox, Omnisend, PickEasy, EcomSend). On the surface, the store looks launch-ready.

Complication: Beneath that surface, the purchase path is fundamentally broken in ways that a visitor cannot recover from unaided. Three independent defects converge on the cart/checkout stage:

  1. The PDP "Add to cart" button routes shoppers directly to /checkout, which is hard-blocked by a mandatory delivery-date gate that can only be set on /cart — so every product-page add-to-cart dead-ends at an error (reproduced across products).
  2. Even when a shopper correctly reaches /cart and meets the $70 minimum, the Checkout button silently fails when the delivery date is unset — no navigation, no error, no explanation (reproduced at $25 / $50 / $75 / $150 carts).
  3. The store's social proof is fabricated. The Loox reviews app is in demo mode, so the "5/5 — 9 reviews" badge and named testimonials shown on the homepage and cart are placeholder content, not real customers. Compounding this, sale pricing is inverted store-wide (e.g. "Regular $2.99 / Sale $3.99 / you save $1.00"), ~70% of listing-page product images are generic stock placeholders, and 14 gallery images use the .heic format that renders as broken in every major browser.

In short: the foundational brand and discovery layers are solid, but the transactional core — the moment a visitor decides to buy — is non-functional, untrustworthy, and visually compromised.

Question: What must be fixed first to turn this store's real traffic into purchases — and in what order, given limited engineering capacity?

Answer: Fix the funnel before optimising it. The single highest-leverage action is making a purchase possible: repair the PDP→cart→checkout flow and the silent date gate (P0, days not weeks). In parallel, restore trust integrity by removing the fabricated reviews and adding payment/security reassurance, and correct the pricing/image defects that silently erode credibility. Once the funnel is functional, the brand's genuine strengths (heritage, freshness story, content) can be converted into revenue through the lower-effort persuasion and merchandising wins listed in §8–§10.

Overall CRO score: 3.0 / 10. The discovery and brand layers rate moderately well; the cart/checkout core rates close to zero because, as audited, it does not complete a sale for the dominant entry path. The encouraging counterpoint: most of the highest-impact fixes are low-effort configuration changes, not rebuilds.

Estimated revenue impact (modelled, see §11 for assumptions): Repairing the funnel recovers purchases that are currently impossible, not merely sub-optimal. Under a representative mid-case of ~5,000 monthly visitors (a planning placeholder — real figures require GA4 first-party data), fixing the PDP/checkout break alone plausibly moves the site from a near-zero effective conversion path to a 1.5–3.0% functional rate, i.e. +75–150 incremental orders/month before any persuasion lift. The persuasion/trust fixes (badges, real reviews, pricing integrity) then compound that baseline.

2. Funnel Analysis

The e-commerce funnel: Visit → Browse/Category → Product Page → Add to Cart → Checkout → Purchase → Repeat.

StageBenchmark (Food/Beverage)*Observed on TPSStatusDrop-off driver
Homepage → Category40–60%Not measured (no analytics access)UnknownStrong CTAs present; free-delivery bar good
Category → Product30–50%Not measuredUnknownPLP credible, but 70% placeholder imagery may suppress clicks
Product → Add to Cart8–12%Severely suppressedBlocked arteryPDP add-to-cart redirects to a blocked /checkout (F-D1). Even successful adds land in a cart that then blocks Checkout silently (F-C1). Inverted pricing + no delivery info add hesitation.
Cart → Checkout45–55%≈0% for dominant pathBlocked artery (critical)Mandatory delivery-date gate only on /cart; Checkout CTA silently fails without it; drawer Checkout is a dead-end (no date picker in drawer).
Checkout → Purchase50–65%Unreachable via dominant pathMissing linkNo visitor reaches a usable checkout from the PDP without manually back-tracking to /cart and setting a date.
RepeatWeak infrastructureGapNo subscription, no post-purchase review flow (demo only), thin email capture.

Benchmarks from the CRO skill (Food/Beverage sector: CVR 3–5%, cart abandonment 60–65%, AOV $40–60). TPS is premium-positioned with a $70 minimum and box AOV up to $150, so its "healthy" AOV may sit above the sector floor — but the funnel is currently failing before* any of that matters.

Blocked arteries: the Cart→Checkout and Product→Add-to-Cart transitions. Missing links: a working, date-aware checkout reachable from the PDP; recurring/repeat-purchase mechanics.

3. Per-Page Reviews

3.1 Homepage

  • What's Working
    • Clear above-the-fold value proposition ("Premium Produce. Delivered Fresher." + single SHOP NOW CTA) gives a first-time visitor the offer, tier, and next step in under five seconds — a strong clarity signal.
    • A time-bound free-delivery promo ("Ends 30/08/2026") is the first thing seen; this is a genuine, low-cost urgency/value cue.
    • The "Let's Start Building Your Order!" category tiles, "This Week's Picks", and "Buyers Pick" editorial give first-time visitors real guidance and merchandising bridges into the catalogue.
    • The FAQ accordion directly answers the highest-friction pre-purchase questions (delivery area, $70 minimum, freshness, guarantee) — good information scent.
    • The live Instagram feed surfaces authentic grower storytelling and UGC — credible social proof for a small brand.
  • Opportunity Areas
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction
      • Observation: 14 gallery images use the .heic format, which no major browser renders, so the "Stunning Fruit & Veg" marquee shows broken images on a hero-quality branding section.
      • Possible Impact: Damages the premium "finest produce" perception at the exact moment the brand claims visual superiority.
      • Confidence: High Confidence Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — re-export source photos to JPG/WebP; add an onerror fallback.
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction
      • Observation: Sale pricing is inverted on multiple items (e.g. Kiwi regular $0.80 / sale $1.20), so "SAVE $X" labels claim savings where the customer pays more.
      • Possible Impact: Erodes price trust and creates a misleading-discount / ACL exposure risk; confuses comparison shoppers.
      • Confidence: High Confidence Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low–Medium
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — audit compare-at-price data and theme price logic.
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction
      • Observation: No payment-method or security trust badges (Visa/Mastercard/Amex/PayPal/Shop Pay/Afterpay) appear anywhere on the homepage or footer.
      • Possible Impact: First-time buyers lack reassurance at the decision point; may contribute to abandonment.
      • Confidence: High Confidence Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — Shopify renders these natively once enabled.
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction
      • Observation: The $70 minimum order is disclosed only in the FAQ, not near the start of the journey or pre-checkout.
      • Possible Impact: A browser can fill a cart, hit checkout, and be surprised by the threshold — a probable late-stage abandonment point.
      • Confidence: High Confidence Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — surface a persistent "$70 min · Free Sydney metro delivery" bar.
    • Category: Category B — Strategy-Dependent Choice
      • Observation: The unconfigured "Pickup location" modal (enabled:false, "123 John Doe Street" placeholder) is still mounted globally.
      • Possible Impact: A visitor who opens it sees an empty/placeholder storefront, which could imply a physical location that does not exist.
      • Confidence: Moderate Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — disable/hide it; the brand is D2C-only.
    • Category: Category B — Strategy-Dependent Choice
      • Observation: Minor typos appear in customer-facing copy (e.g. "theproducesocitey.com.au" in FAQ email, "will berefunded", possible "Expore").
      • Possible Impact: Polish/credibility; the email typo could even bounce support mail (see §3.6).
      • Confidence: Moderate Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — proofread.

3.2 Product Listing Page (PLP)

  • What's Working
    • Faceted filtering (Categories / Availability / Price) works and survives a PDP round-trip with back-button state preserved — a genuine usability strength with no reset friction.
    • Breadcrumbs, result counts, and a responsive grid (4→3→2→2 columns) give clear orientation and scalable discovery across 199 SKUs.
    • The announcement bar carries the time-bound free-delivery value signal above the grid.
  • Opportunity Areas
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction
      • Observation: ~70% of /collections/all page-1 cards (35/50) use generic envato-labs-image-edit-*.png stock placeholders rather than real produce photography.
      • Possible Impact: For a brand whose entire promise is "the finest produce Australia has to offer," showing stock-photo strawberries/avocados undercuts the value proposition and reads as unlaunched/templated — likely suppressing PLP→PDP clicks.
      • Confidence: High Confidence Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Medium (photography/replacement)
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — priority the page-1 bestsellers; if real photography is unavailable short-term, hide placeholder cards or use a neutral branded tile.
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction (carried from homepage)
      • Observation: Inverted sale pricing is systemic across the PLP (e.g. Broccolini $2.99→$3.99 "SAVE $1.00").
      • Possible Impact: Same price-trust erosion as homepage.
      • Confidence: High Confidence Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low–Medium
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes.
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction (carried)
      • Observation: The $70 minimum / free-delivery threshold is not surfaced on the PLP — only in the homepage FAQ.
      • Possible Impact: Late-surprise friction at checkout.
      • Confidence: High Confidence Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes.
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction (carried)
      • Observation: No payment/security trust badges on the PLP.
      • Possible Impact: First-time buyers see no reassurance while browsing.
      • Confidence: High Confidence Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes.
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction
      • Observation: Sorting "Price, low to high" surfaces 11 sold-out $0.00 dead SKUs before real produce.
      • Possible Impact: A price-sensitive sorter meets a screen of unavailable $0 items that read as broken placeholders.
      • Confidence: Significant Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — push sold-out/$0 items to the end or archive them.
    • Category: Category B — Strategy-Dependent Choice
      • Observation: No bottom-of-page SEO/educational content (sourcing/delivery/FAQ accordion) on any PLP — the grid ends and the footer begins.
      • Possible Impact: Missed "why premium" trust surface and organic visibility at the decision point.
      • Confidence: Moderate Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low–Medium
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — reuse homepage content in a collapsible block.
    • Category: Category B — Strategy-Dependent Choice
      • Observation: Filters render client-side only (no facet markup in server HTML), so no-JS users and crawlers/AI agents cannot filter.
      • Possible Impact: Weaker faceted-SEO and agent accessibility (notable given the brand's otherwise agent-native posture).
      • Confidence: Moderate Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Medium
      • Realistic for Brand?: Partial — add a <noscript>/server-rendered facet fallback.

3.3 Product Detail Page (PDP)

  • What's Working
    • The Curated Large Box PDP provides a full itemised contents list — directly answering "what do I get?" for a considered $150 purchase.
    • Variant selection on the Lunchbox Pack works cleanly (hidden ID + URL update correctly; no price desync).
    • The AJAX quantity stepper and cart data layer are correct (price, variant mapping verified in cart).
    • Breadcrumbs and H1s are present and structurally sound.
  • Opportunity Areas
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction (the single most damaging finding in the audit)
      • Observation: The PDP "Add to cart" redirects the browser straight to /checkout, which is hard-blocked by a mandatory "Order due date/time" that can only be set on /cart. Every PDP add-to-cart therefore dead-ends at an error — reproduced across products.
      • Possible Impact: 100% of PDP add-to-cart attempts fail to reach a usable checkout via the dominant path; this is catastrophic, near-total conversion loss for the primary entry point.
      • Confidence: High Confidence Opportunity (reproduced; root cause confirmed)
      • Effort to Fix: Low–Medium
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — change the PDP handler to add-to-cart-and-stay (open drawer) or collect/pass the date before any checkout redirect; ideally surface the date picker on the PDP itself.
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction
      • Observation: The Loox reviews app is in demo mode — every PDP widget returns empty demo content, and the homepage/cart "5/5 — 9 reviews" with named testimonials are fabricated placeholder social proof.
      • Possible Impact: Presenting fake 5★ reviews is a trust-integrity issue and a potential misleading-conduct risk; it means the brand currently shows zero real reviews at the decision point.
      • Confidence: High Confidence Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — either migrate real post-purchase reviews into Loox or disable the demo widget so no false reviews display.
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction (carried)
      • Observation: Inverted sale pricing renders on the PDP itself (e.g. Broccolini "Regular $2.99 / Sale $3.99 / you save $1.00").
      • Possible Impact: Most damaging where the false "you save" is shown at the point of commitment.
      • Confidence: High Confidence Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low–Medium
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes.
    • Category: Category B — Strategy-Dependent Choice
      • Observation: The PDP gallery is a single static image — no thumbnail strip, lightbox, zoom, video, or lifestyle/contents shot.
      • Possible Impact: Weak visualization for a premium-fresh brand; undercuts the "stunning produce" promise.
      • Confidence: Significant Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Medium
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — add angles/unboxing/lifestyle and enable thumbnail + zoom.
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction
      • Observation: No delivery-date / ETA / shipping-cost information appears on the PDP; the mandatory date gate is hidden on /cart.
      • Possible Impact: A buyer cannot see when or if they will receive the order before committing; compounds the add-to-cart break.
      • Confidence: Significant Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Medium
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — surface the delivery window, cut-off, and free-delivery threshold inline.
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction
      • Observation: The "More payment options" link in the buy box is a dead href="#" (no modal, no navigation, no payment list).
      • Possible Impact: Implies payment choices that do not exist; a broken-link trust hit that also connects to the missing payment-badge gap.
      • Confidence: Significant Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — replace with real payment badges or a working secure-checkout modal; remove if unused.
    • Category: Category B — Strategy-Dependent Choice
      • Observation: No returns/guarantee summary on the PDP (only footer links + homepage text promise).
      • Possible Impact: The key risk-reducer ("what if it's not fresh?") is absent at the decision point.
      • Confidence: Significant Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — add a compact "100% freshness guarantee · easy returns" reassurance block.
    • Category: Category B — Strategy-Dependent Choice
      • Observation: No cross-sell / "you may also like" / frequently-bought-together on the PDP.
      • Possible Impact: Missed AOV and discovery at the highest-intent moment.
      • Confidence: Moderate Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Medium
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — add a "Complete your box" carousel, especially on box PDPs.
    • Category: Category B — Strategy-Dependent Choice
      • Observation: A 15%-off email-capture popup fired on the PDP — intrusive at the exact purchase-decision moment.
      • Possible Impact: May suppress add-to-cart; also, no $70-min messaging is present on the PDP.
      • Confidence: Moderate Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — gate the popup to exit-intent/first-visit; surface the minimum-order bar persistently.

3.4 Cart & Checkout

  • What's Working
    • Both cart formats exist (AJAX mini-cart drawer + dedicated /cart page) — the skill expects both, and both are present.
    • Line-item and variant integrity are correct (e.g. "Choose Apple Variety: Granny Smith" preserved from PDP).
    • The AJAX quantity stepper updates the subtotal instantly with no reload.
    • Free-gift ("Spend $45 more") and "often bought together" upsells are present on the cart/drawer.
    • A postcode/zone delivery check and an order-instructions field are present.
  • Opportunity Areas
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction
      • Observation: The Checkout CTA silently fails when the mandatory delivery-date attribute is missing — no navigation, no error, no explanation — reproduced at $25 / $50 / $75 / $150 carts.
      • Possible Impact: A shopper whose Checkout button does nothing receives zero diagnostic feedback — a near-certain abandonment plus support-contact burden.
      • Confidence: High Confidence Opportunity (reproduced)
      • Effort to Fix: Low–Medium
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — do not render Checkout as enabled until the date is set; show a visible "Select a delivery date to continue" message before the click.
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction
      • Observation: No inline error explains why Checkout is blocked (date and/or sub-$70).
      • Possible Impact: Silent dead-end; the only related copy is a small "Minimum order amount of $70" line.
      • Confidence: High Confidence Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — add explicit inline validation scrolling the control into view.
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction
      • Observation: The delivery-date picker (pickeasy) exists only on /cart, not in the mini-cart drawer — so drawer Checkout is a dead-end.
      • Possible Impact: Two of the three discovered paths (drawer, PDP) cannot reach a usable checkout.
      • Confidence: Significant Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Medium
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — expose the date picker in the drawer, or relabel drawer Checkout to "Go to cart to choose delivery date."
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction
      • Observation: Client-side cart JS is unreliable — the Storefront API version 2025-07 is deprecated, throwing empty exceptions; PLP quick-add and PDP AJAX add-to-cart did not commit in testing (only the native form POST worked).
      • Possible Impact: Add-to-cart may silently fail for some visitors in real browsers; a reliability defect that is easy to miss.
      • Confidence: Significant Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low–Medium
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — upgrade the Storefront API client; add error handling/retry so a failed add shows a message.
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction (carried)
      • Observation: No payment/security trust badges on the cart or drawer.
      • Possible Impact: Zero payment reassurance at the highest-intent moment.
      • Confidence: High Confidence Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes.
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction
      • Observation: The empty-cart state is a dead-end (only "Continue browsing").
      • Possible Impact: A shopper who empties/abandons sees a blank recovery state — a conversion drop-off point.
      • Confidence: Moderate Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Medium
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — add a bestseller quick-add carousel and a Curated Boxes shortcut.
    • Category: Category B — Strategy-Dependent Choice
      • Observation: The $70 minimum surfaces only as small text with no progress bar ("you're $X away").
      • Possible Impact: Late-surprise; blocks Checkout with no moment-of-failure message.
      • Confidence: Significant Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — add a progress indicator visible on PDP, cart, and drawer.

3.5 Search & Navigation

  • What's Working
    • Header search (placeholder "Search for products e.g. Bananas"), a 39-link mega menu, breadcrumbs, and consistent sticky header across all pages give strong findability.
    • Filters and sort verified working with correct URL persistence.
  • Opportunity Areas
    • Category: Category B — Strategy-Dependent Choice
      • Observation: Search predictive/autocomplete behaviour was not verifiable in this session; the field routes correctly but suggestion quality is unknown.
      • Possible Impact: If autocomplete is weak, high-intent discovery suffers.
      • Confidence: Observation
      • Effort to Fix: Medium
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — verify and enable search suggestions.
    • Category: Category B — Strategy-Dependent Choice
      • Observation: Minor label inconsistencies (top nav "Lunchbox Sized" vs mega menu "Lunchbox Fruit"; "Leaf Vegetables" duplicated).
      • Possible Impact: Slight confusion / minor SEO duplicate.
      • Confidence: Moderate Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — standardise labels.

3.6 Policy & Support Pages

  • What's Working
    • All seven pages (About, Contact, FAQ, Delivery, Returns, Wholesale, Blog) resolve with real content and no 404s or "Translation missing" keys.
    • The FAQ directly answers the highest-friction perishable-D2C objections (minimum order, delivery area, substitution/refund, leave-at-door, 100% guarantee).
    • The Wholesale B2B path is clear with a working lead form.
  • Opportunity Areas
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction
      • Observation: The support email is misspelled info@theproducesocitey.com.au on the FAQ, Delivery, and Returns pages (footer/Contact use the correct domain). A customer copying it from a policy page hits a dead address.
      • Possible Impact: Actively blocks support contact — a functional defect, not merely cosmetic.
      • Confidence: High Confidence Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — fix the domain and add a mailto: link.
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction
      • Observation: The homepage "100% guarantee / full refund if not delighted" contradicts the Returns policy, which refunds only faulty/damaged goods within 24h.
      • Possible Impact: Misleading-conduct/ACL exposure and an objection-creator if a "not delighted" claim is refused.
      • Confidence: Significant Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — align the wording (honour a satisfaction guarantee or reword the homepage promise).
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction
      • Observation: The Contact page is an email form only — no phone, no WhatsApp/live chat, no hours, no response-time promise, no map.
      • Possible Impact: For perishable goods where delivery timing matters, the absence of a fast reassurance channel may lower form completion.
      • Confidence: Significant Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low–Medium
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes (if a phone/WhatsApp exists) — add tel:/wa.me and a "we reply within 24h" assurance.
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction
      • Observation: The Delivery policy page never states the standard delivery fee or free-delivery threshold/conditions, contradicting the homepage "Free Delivery For All Sydney Metro Orders" promo.
      • Possible Impact: A first-time buyer reading the policy cannot tell what delivery will cost — pre-checkout friction.
      • Confidence: Significant Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — add a scannable delivery summary (fee, threshold, dispatch cadence, carrier, ETA, safe-drop, transit-damage note).
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction
      • Observation: About Us is a conversion dead-end — a single paragraph with no CTA, no founder/team imagery, no proof.
      • Possible Impact: A brand-story reader who is emotionally sold has no path to shop; the trust asset is under-leveraged.
      • Confidence: Significant Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low–Medium
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — add "Explore Our Produce" CTA, founder/grower photography, and links to FAQ/Delivery.
    • Category: Category A — Objective Friction
      • Observation: The blog article mentions specific products (mandarins, berries, oranges) with zero embedded buy links; the blog has only one post and is not in the footer.
      • Possible Impact: Lost merchandising opportunity and weak discovery; reader drop-off.
      • Confidence: Significant Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Medium
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — embed product/collection cards, add "Shop this week's finest" CTA, add Blog to footer, publish regularly.
    • Category: Category B — Strategy-Dependent Choice
      • Observation: All content/policy pages end in the footer with no CTA back to shop/cart.
      • Possible Impact: Missed conversion continuity on every informational page.
      • Confidence: Moderate Opportunity
      • Effort to Fix: Low
      • Realistic for Brand?: Yes — add a consistent bottom-of-page CTA block.

4. The O/CO Framework (Objection / Counter-Objection)

Visitor ObjectionCurrent Counter-Objection (what the site does)GapRecommended CO
Trust — "Is this a legitimate, safe store?"Heritage copy ("since 1963"), an Instagram feed, and a "5/5 — 9 reviews" badge. The reviews are Loox demo placeholder content (fabricated); no payment/security badges; no phone; FAQ email is misspelled. The trust signals that exist are either fake or absent.Disable the demo reviews and collect real post-purchase reviews; add Visa/MC/Amex/PayPal/Shop Pay/Afterpay + "Secure checkout" badges site-wide; add a real support channel (phone/WhatsApp) and fix the email typo.
Price — "Is it worth the money? Is the discount real?"Free-delivery promo; "SAVE $X" badges; $70 minimum stated in FAQ.Sale pricing is inverted (customer pays more on "sale" items), so "SAVE" is false; the $70 minimum appears only in FAQ, not pre-checkout.Fix compare-at-price logic so sales are real; surface the $70 minimum + free-delivery threshold as a persistent progress bar from PLP through checkout.
Fit — "Will this work for my household?"Curated boxes, Lunchbox range, itemised box contents.Staple PDPs lack weight/serves/"lasts how long" guidance; no cross-sell to complete a box.Add serves/weight/allergen notes; add "Complete your box" recommendations on box PDPs.
Timing — "When will I get it, and can I trust the date?"Delivery page states day-after-next (buried); a date picker exists on /cart.No ETA/cut-off on the PDP; the mandatory date gate is hidden from the PDP and the drawer; checkout fails silently without it.Surface the delivery window + cut-off on the PDP; collect the date inline (PDP + drawer + /cart) so checkout never silently blocks.
Effort — "How hard is it to order?"Clear CTAs; working filters; card quick-add.The dominant PDP→checkout path dead-ends; deprecated API breaks AJAX add-to-cart; empty-cart and content pages are dead-ends; no recurring/subscription option for a repeat-purchase category.Repair the PDP→cart→checkout flow; fix the Storefront API; add recovery CTAs on empty/content pages; consider a subscription mechanism for boxes/workplace lines.

5. Persuasion Assets Audit

Credentials & Authority — Partial.

  • Exists: 60+ years heritage stated; "Aussie growers" narrative; clean Shopify stack; B2B wholesale heritage.
  • Missing: No certifications/awards/media logos; no "as seen in"/press; no concrete proof imagery (founder, grower, farm) on About or PDP.
  • Wishlist: Founder/grower photography; any industry awards or press; a verifiable "trusted by X businesses" line for the wholesale page.

Social Proof — Compromised.

  • Exists: Authentic Instagram UGC + grower stories; a real 5.0/5 rating would be strong — but the Loox widget is in demo mode, so the displayed reviews are fabricated.
  • Missing: Any real review surfaced; no rating aggregation on cards/PLP; no testimonials with photos; no case studies.
  • Wishlist: Migrate real post-purchase reviews into Loox (send review requests post-delivery); until then, disable the demo widget; add a "verified buyer" badge once real reviews exist.

Risk Reversal — Present in text, weakened in practice.

  • Exists: "100% quality guarantee / full refund if not delighted" promise; leave-safe delivery; substitution/refund policy.
  • Missing: The promise is contradicted by the written Returns policy (faulty-only, 24h); no guarantee/returns summary on the PDP or cart; no payment-security reassurance.
  • Wishlist: Align guarantee wording; add a compact reassurance block at the PDP buy box and cart; add "Secure checkout" messaging.

Data & Specificity — Thin.

  • Exists: Itemised box contents; specific heritage claim (1963).
  • Missing: No "serves X / lasts Y days" specifics; no freshness benchmarks; no delivery-time specificity.
  • Wishlist: Add concrete freshness/longevity guidance and a delivery SLA summary.

Process & Methodology — Implicit.

  • Exists: "Daily-sourced, delivered day-after-next" model described.
  • Missing: No behind-the-scenes/quality-control visualization; no "how we select" step-by-step.
  • Wishlist: A short "from grower to door" visual on About or Delivery.

7. Bugs & Structural Anomalies

  • Funnel-breaking: PDP "Add to cart" redirects to a hard-blocked /checkout (mandatory delivery-date gate only on /cart). [Critical]
  • Silent failure: Checkout CTA does nothing when the date attribute is missing (reproduced at $25/$50/$75/$150). [Critical]
  • Fabricated social proof: Loox app in demo mode — "5/5 — 9 reviews" and named testimonials are placeholder content. [Critical — trust integrity]
  • Inverted sale pricing store-wide (Regular < Sale; false "SAVE"/"you save"). [Critical/Major — ACL exposure]
  • Broken images: 14 .heic gallery images render as broken in all browsers; ~70% of PLP cards use generic envato-labs stock placeholders. [Critical/Major]
  • Deprecated Storefront API 2025-07 throwing exceptions; AJAX add-to-cart unreliable in testing. [Major — reliability]
  • Drawer dead-end: delivery-date picker absent from mini-cart drawer. [Major]
  • Support email typo theproducesocitey.com.au on FAQ/Delivery/Returns (footer correct). [Major — blocks support]
  • Guarantee contradiction: homepage "full refund if not delighted" vs Returns "faulty/damaged only, 24h". [Major — ACL/misleading]
  • Dead UI: "More payment options" href="#" on PDP; empty "Order instructions" accordion; unconfigured "Pickup location" modal (enabled:false) globally. [Minor–Major]
  • Dead-end states: empty cart (only "Continue browsing"); all content/policy pages end in footer with no CTA. [Moderate]
  • Data hygiene: 11 sold-out $0.00 SKUs surfaced by price-ascending sort; duplicate "Featured" sort option; duplicate "Regular price" label on PDP. [Minor–Moderate]
  • Copy defects: typos ("circamstance", "a obvious", possible "Expore"); cookie modal not dismissible via Esc. [Minor]

8. Quick Wins (Ranked by Impact / Effort) — each ≤ Low–Medium effort

  1. Disable the Loox demo reviews widget (or replace with a real review request flow). Removes fabricated 5★ social proof. — Low / High Confidence / Realistic.
  2. Fix the support email typo (theproducesociteytheproducesociety) on FAQ/Delivery/Returns; add mailto:. — Low / High / Realistic.
  3. Add payment & security badges (Visa/MC/Amex/PayPal/Shop Pay/Afterpay + "Secure checkout") to header, footer, cart, and drawer. — Low / High / Realistic.
  4. Surface the $70 minimum + free-delivery as a persistent progress bar from PLP → PDP → cart → drawer. — Low / High / Realistic.
  5. Fix inverted sale pricing (compare-at data + theme logic) and suppress false "SAVE"/"you save" badges. — Low–Medium / High / Realistic.
  6. Convert the 14 .heic gallery images to JPG/WebP and add an onerror fallback. — Low / High / Realistic.
  7. Add an inline Checkout error ("Select a delivery date to continue" / "$X more to reach $70 min") shown before the silent dead-end. — Low / High / Realistic.
  8. Disable/hide the unconfigured "Pickup location" modal (no physical store). — Low / Moderate / Realistic.
  9. Add a bottom-of-page shop CTA ("Explore Our Produce" / "Browse collections") to About, FAQ, Delivery, Returns, Wholesale, Blog. — Low / Moderate / Realistic.
  10. Remove dead UI: the PDP "More payment options" # link, the empty "Order instructions" accordion, the duplicate "Regular price" label, the duplicate "Featured" sort option. — Low / Moderate / Realistic.

10. A/B Testing Roadmap

Note: The funnel is currently broken, so the first priorities are fixes (P0), not tests. Once functional, the items below become testable hypotheses. Where a fix is unambiguous (e.g. a dead funnel), testing is secondary to simply shipping the correction.
#Hypothesis (If we [X], then [Y] because [Z])ICE (I/C/E)Priority
T1If we stop the PDP add-to-cart from redirecting to the blocked /checkout and instead open the cart with the date collector, then PDP→purchase completion will rise because the dominant entry path will no longer dead-end.10/10/7P0 — implement without testing
T2If we require the delivery date before enabling Checkout and show an inline prompt, then silent checkout failures will fall to ~0 because the gate is satisfied before the click.10/10/7P0 — implement without testing
T3If we disable the demo reviews and show only real post-purchase reviews (or none), then perceived trust will rise because fake 5★ is replaced by authentic signal.8/9/9P0 — implement (remove false proof)
T4If we surface the $70 minimum as a live progress bar from PLP→checkout, then min-order abandonment will fall because the threshold is no longer a late surprise.7/8/9P1 — test first
T5If we add payment/security badges to cart and checkout, then first-time-buyer completion will rise because reassurance appears at the decision point.6/8/9P1 — test first
T6If we replace placeholder PLP imagery with real produce photography, then PLP→PDP CTR will rise because the premium promise is visually credible.7/7/6P1 — test first
T7If we add a "Complete your box" recommendation carousel on box PDPs, then AOV will rise because complementary items are offered at the highest-intent moment.6/7/7P2 — test when capacity allows
T8If we gate the 15%-off popup to exit-intent/first-visit only, then PDP add-to-cart rate will rise because the interrupt no longer competes with the buy decision.5/7/9P2 — test

11. Revenue Impact Estimate

Important assumptions (stated explicitly):

  • Traffic is not reliably known. Third-party panels (StatShow, SimilarWeb) undercount or block this new Shopify store; CrUX confirms real recurring Chrome traffic but no volume. All dollar figures below use a representative planning placeholder of ~5,000 monthly visitors and must be replaced with GA4/Shopify first-party data. This is a modelling exercise, not a measured result.
  • Current effective conversion via the dominant path is near-zero because PDP add-to-cart dead-ends and Checkout silently fails. The benefit of O1+O2 is therefore recovering previously impossible purchases, not merely nudging a working rate.
  • Sector context: Food/Beverage benchmark CVR 3–5%; TPS is premium with box AOV up to $150, so a functional mid-case rate of ~2–3% is plausible once the funnel works (below benchmark while the brand is new/low-traffic, but directionally meaningful).
  • AOV assumption: ~$75 blended (mix of staples and boxes), pending first-party data.
ScenarioMonthly visitorsEffective CVR (post-fix)Orders/moEst. monthly revenue (@ $75 AOV)
Today (dominant path broken)5,000~0% (dead-end)~0–negligible~$0 from PDP path
Conservative (fix funnel + trust; 1.5% CVR)5,0001.5%75~$5,600
Mid-case (2.5% CVR)5,0002.5%125~$9,400
Optimistic (3.5% CVR + AOV lift from boxes/upsell)5,0003.5%175~$15,200

Interpretation: The largest swing is simply making the purchase possible (O1/O2/O3). The persuasion wins (badges, real reviews, pricing integrity, imagery) then compound the recovered baseline. Because the current path converts ~nobody, even a modest functional rate represents a step-change in addressable revenue. These ranges are illustrative; the brand should instrument GA4/Shopify from day one of the fix and re-baseline within two weeks.

12. CRO Score Breakdown

CategoryScoreNotes
Value Proposition Clarity7 / 10Clear premium positioning and above-the-fold message; undermined only by late-surprise $70 gate and delivery uncertainty.
Trust & Credibility2 / 10Fabricated reviews, no payment badges, misspelled support email, guarantee contradiction. The weakest dimension.
Navigation & Findability7 / 10Strong mega menu, working filters/sort with state persistence, breadcrumbs.
Product Presentation3 / 10Placeholder imagery on PLP, single-image PDPs, broken HEIC gallery, no zoom.
Cart & Checkout1 / 10Fundamentally non-functional for the dominant path; silent gate; no badges; empty-cart dead-end.
Persuasion Assets4 / 10Good Instagram + heritage; but fake reviews, no badges, no real testimonials.
Urgency & Scarcity3 / 10Free-delivery deadline is a genuine cue; false "SAVE" labels and no stock urgency.
Risk Reversal4 / 10Guarantee text exists but is contradicted by policy; no PDP/cart reassurance; no payment security.
Overall3.0 / 10Foundations (brand, discovery) are salvageable; the transactional core is currently failing. Most top fixes are low-effort.

13. Recommendations Summary

Immediate (This Week) — critical fixes & bugs (P0):

  • Repair the PDP add-to-cart → /cart flow; stop redirecting to the blocked /checkout (O1).
  • Fix the silent Checkout gate: require delivery date before enabling Checkout; add inline error + date picker on PDP and drawer (O2).
  • Disable the Loox demo reviews widget; plan a real post-purchase review collection flow (O3).
  • Fix the support email typo on FAQ/Delivery/Returns (Quick Win 2).
  • Fix inverted sale pricing and suppress false "SAVE" badges (O4).
  • Convert the 14 .heic gallery images; add onerror fallback (Quick Win 6).
  • Upgrade the deprecated Storefront API client so AJAX add-to-cart is reliable (F-C5).

Short-Term (This Month) — high-impact improvements:

  • Add payment/security badges site-wide (O6).
  • Surface the $70 minimum + free-delivery as a persistent progress bar (O7).
  • Replace PLP placeholder imagery with real photography (O5).
  • Align guarantee wording and add a returns summary to PDP/cart (O8).
  • Add "Explore Our Produce" CTAs to all content/policy pages; make the blog shoppable (O9).
  • Add a recovery carousel to the empty-cart state.

Medium-Term (This Quarter) — structural changes:

  • Surface delivery window, cut-off, and cost on the PDP; unify date selection across PDP + drawer + /cart.
  • Add "Complete your box" / frequently-bought-together on PDPs.
  • Add founder/grower photography and proof to About and PDPs.
  • Consider a subscription/recurrence mechanism for boxes and Workplace Fruit (fits the repeat-purchase model).
  • Verify and enhance search autocomplete/suggestions.

Long-Term (This Year) — strategic initiatives:

  • Build a genuine review engine (post-purchase requests, photo reviews) to replace the demo content.
  • Develop a content/seasonal hub (the blog exists but is thin) to support SEO and repeat engagement.
  • Expand the B2B/wholesale portal beyond a lead form.
  • Establish a measurement practice (§14) and run the P1/P2 experiments from §10.

15. Mandatory Self-Check

CheckQuestionResult
FrictionDiagnosed via Fogg (Prompt → Ability → Motivation)?Yes — see §6; primary friction is Ability (broken/incomplete funnel).
MobileRecommendations tested on mobile? Not verifiable — all source audits were desktop-only (no mobile emulation in this environment). Mobile layout, sticky CTAs, and drawer behaviour are flagged for a dedicated 375px audit.
EthicsNo dark patterns / misleading urgency?Yes — recommendations explicitly remove false "SAVE" labels and fabricated reviews; no fabricated urgency proposed.
DataRecommendations backed by data/benchmarks?Yes — benchmarks cited from the CRO skill; findings reproduced live in source audits.
PrioritizationTests PIE-prioritized?Yes — §9 (PIE) and §10 (ICE).
LocalLocal payment methods accounted for?Yes — Australian methods (Shop Pay, PayPal, Afterpay, cards) recommended for badges.
AssumptionsSector/traffic/CVR assumptions explicit?Yes — §11 states traffic unknown; figures are modelling placeholders.

Self-Check: Complete (with the mobile-verification remark above). Assumptions:

  • Monthly traffic and current CVR are unknown (third-party panels unreliable for this new Shopify store); the ~5,000-visitor / $75-AOV model in §11 is a planning placeholder, not a measured figure.
  • The brand is D2C-only with no physical store (the "Pickup location" modal is unconfigured).
  • Findings reflect the customer-facing experience only; backend features (abandoned-cart emails, post-purchase flows) were not verifiable from a frontend audit and are noted as such.
  • Mobile rendering was not visually verified in any source audit.

To validate:

  • GA4/Shopify first-party traffic and conversion baseline (replace the §11 placeholder).
  • That the date-set → Shop Pay happy path works in a live browser (proven in the prior PDP audit; not re-driven here due to the non-serializable pickeasy date picker).
  • Real visitor behaviour at the $70 gate and the delivery-date step (heatmaps/recordings once the funnel is functional).
  • Wholesale form fields and success message (JS-embedded; not statically verifiable).
  • Mobile layout, sticky PDP CTA, and drawer checkout on a 375px viewport.
