AEO / GEO Audit
AI SEO / Answer-Engine Optimization (AEO) Audit — Planet Paaduks
Prepared 2026-08-27. Technical checks verified live via raw HTML / curl / Google SERP proxies. Business context from business-analysis.md. Every recommendation cites a source or a verified finding.
Executive Summary
Planet Paaduks has a strong foundation for AI visibility that most D2C brands lack: it is already on Shopify's 2026 agentic-commerce platform, which auto-generates llms.txt, agents.md, and a Universal Commerce Protocol (.well-known/ucp) endpoint. Its robots.txt allows all AI crawlers (no blocking). Its core brand queries already surface in search results, frequently via third-party sites (Demandeals, ANI, ContentPedia, marketplaces) rather than the main D2C store.
The gaps are content-extractability and structured-data depth, not crawl access:
- The flagship sustainability story ("upcycled tyre soles") is absent from the homepage's extractable body text. The homepage reads as generic ("premium footwear… style, comfort, value") with no definition block, no "kg of tyres recycled" stat, no founding year. AI systems summarizing the homepage cannot extract the single most distinctive, most-citable claim the brand owns.
- Product pages carry no review/rating schema. AI engines see every product as "unreviewed," killing trust extraction and AI Overviews eligibility for "[brand] [product] reviews."
- No FAQPage or BreadcrumbList schema anywhere. The brand loses the FAQ-extraction and category-hierarchy signals that non-Google engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude) reward.
- The brand is invisible on high-intent category queries ("best vegan sandals India," "sandals from recycled tyres") where competitors (GreenSole, Neeman's) are cited instead.
- Blog content is stale — the gifting guide carries
datePublished: 2022-01-08with nodateModified. AI systems weight recency heavily and will prefer fresher competitors.
Priority order: fix extractability on the homepage + add Product review schema (highest impact, low effort) → build category/comparison content for the queries where competitors are cited → refresh stale blogs.
1. AI Crawler Access (robots.txt) — PASS
Verified live. robots.txt opens with User-agent: * + Allow: / and does not disallow any AI crawler. Shopify auto-injects agent instructions and UCP pointers at the top of the file:
# Agent instructions: https://www.planetpaaduks.in/agents.md
# UCP discovery: https://www.planetpaaduks.in/.well-known/ucp
# UCP/MCP endpoint: https://www.planetpaaduks.in/api/ucp/mcp
- GPTBot / ChatGPT-User: allowed (no Disallow)
- PerplexityBot: allowed
- ClaudeBot / anthropic-ai: allowed
- Google-Extended: allowed
- Bingbot: allowed
Only /admin, /cart/, /checkout, /orders, /account, and Shopify-internal endpoints are disallowed — correct, transactional-only. No action needed.
2. Machine-Readable Files for AI Agents — STRONG (2 of 4 present)
| File | Status (verified) | Note |
|---|---|---|
/llms.txt | 200 | Auto-generated by Shopify 2026 agentic platform. Mirrors agents.md; describes UCP flow, store policies, read-only browsing endpoints. |
/agents.md | 200 | Auto-generated agent instructions. |
/.well-known/ucp | 200 | Valid UCP merchant profile JSON (version 2026-04-08, shopping/cart/checkout/catalog capabilities, Google Pay + Shopify card handlers). |
/api/ucp/mcp | 404 (on GET) | Expected — it is a POST MCP endpoint, not a browsable page. |
/pricing.md or /pricing.txt | 404 | Gap. Pricing is reachable via UCP catalog for agents, but no human/LLM-readable markdown pricing file exists. Lower priority because UCP covers the agent path. |
Assessment: The store is ahead of ~95% of D2C sites on agent-readiness. The missing /pricing.md is a minor gap (the skill recommends it, but UCP already exposes structured pricing to agents). Optional: add a /pricing.md listing price bands (₹690–₹3,978), MRP-vs-selling framing, and free-shipping threshold, linkable from llms.txt.
3. Schema Markup (verified via raw HTML curl, not text-extraction)
Schema was checked with a method that preserves <script> tags (curl + regex over application/ld+json blocks), per the skill's "How to Verify Schema Markup" rule. Per-page results:
| Page | ld+json blocks | @types found | Product | AggregateRating | Review | FAQPage | BreadcrumbList |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Homepage | 5 | Organization, WebSite, SearchAction | — | ✗ | ✗ | ✗ | ✗ |
| Product PDP (sko-cork-men) | 5 | Organization, Product, Brand, Offer×7 | ✓ | ✗ | ✗ | ✗ | ✗ |
| Blog post (gifting guide) | 5 | Organization, Article, WebPage, Person, ImageObject | — | ✗ | (in Article) | ✗ | ✗ |
| Collection (sandals) | 404 on /collections/sandals handle (handle differs) | — | — | — | — | — | — |
Findings (all verified):
- Product schema is present and correct (type
ProductwithOffervariants, price in readable HTML as "₹"). Good baseline. - No
aggregateRating/reviewCounton any PDP. The brand has a/pages/reviewspage (HTTP 200) and marketplace reviews, but the theme does not emit review schema. AI engines reading a PDP see the product as having zero reviews — a trust and AI-Overview eligibility gap for "[product] reviews" queries. - No
FAQPageschema on any page. The PDP body does contain a "FEATURES" section but no structured Q&A. - No
BreadcrumbListschema. AI uses breadcrumbs to understand category hierarchy (Sandals → Cork → Men). Missing across the store. - No
HowToon any content (fine — low priority for footwear).
Recommendation: Enable a reviews app that emits JSON-LD aggregateRating (e.g. Judge.me or Loox with schema output), and add FAQPage + BreadcrumbList via theme/JSON-LD injection. These three schemas are the highest-leverage structured-data wins for a Shopify Dawn store.
4. Current AI Visibility — Query Test (SERP proxy)
Google AI Overviews correlate strongly with traditional ranking, so organic SERP presence is a valid proxy for "would an AI answer cite this?" Queries tested live 2026-08-27:
| Query | Brand cited? | Where cited | Competitors cited instead |
|---|---|---|---|
| "Planet Paaduks vegan footwear India upcycled tyre sandals" | Yes (pos 1 own site + B2B subdomain, plus 3rd-party) | planetpaaduks.in, b2b.planetpaaduks.in, Demandeals, ANI, ContentPedia | — |
| "Planet Paaduks vs Neeman's" | Partial (own homepage pos 1, but no comparison content) | planetpaaduks.in | Neeman's (madeforplanet.com) |
| "best sustainable vegan sandals India" | No | — | GreenSole, Demandeals list, Nete, Ethik, Veggora, Monkstory |
| "sandals made from recycled tyres India" | No | — | Etsy, GreenSole, Demandeals, The Better India |
| "vegan footwear India" (category) | Marginal (own-name only) | marketplace listings | GreenSole, Neeman's, mass brands |
Pattern: The brand wins branded queries (people who already know the name) but loses category and comparison queries to GreenSole, Neeman's, and listicles. This is the core AI-visibility opportunity: AI answers for "best vegan sandals India" currently summarize competitors because no Planet Paaduks page is structured to be the extractable authority for that intent.
5. Content Extractability — FAIL on Homepage, PARTIAL elsewhere
Verified by stripping nav/chrome and inspecting body text + headings per page.
| Check | Homepage | PDP | Blog |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clear definition in first paragraph | ✗ (generic "premium footwear") | ✓ (product name + "Buy…") | ✓ (title) |
| Core differentiator ("upcycled tyre soles") in body text | ✗ — "tyre/tyres/recycled" absent from homepage text | ✓ (features mention materials) | partial |
| Self-contained 40–60 word answer blocks | ✗ | partial | ✗ |
| Statistics with sources (kg recycled, founded 2013) | ✗ | partial | ✗ |
| Comparison tables (X vs Y) | ✗ | ✗ | ✗ |
| FAQ section (natural-language Q&A) | ✗ | ✗ (only "FEATURES") | ✗ |
| Expert author attribution | ✗ | ✗ | ✓ (author: Amit Jain) |
| Freshness ("last updated") | ✗ | ✗ | ✗ (published 2022) |
| Heading structure matches query phrasing | partial | partial | partial |
Critical extractability gap: The homepage body text does not contain the words "tyre," "tyres," or "recycled" (verified — only "kg" appears, likely in a footer/shipping line). The single most distinctive, most-citable claim — "India's first biodegradable soles from discarded tyres," "recycled 15 lac kg of tyres" — lives in press coverage and the B2B subdomain, not in the homepage extractable text that AI systems read first. An AI asked "what is Planet Paaduks?" from the homepage would return a generic footwear description and miss the sustainability thesis entirely.
6. Prioritized Recommendations
Ordered by impact ÷ effort. Effort: L (theme edit / app), M (content production), H (sustained program).
P0 — Fix extractability on the homepage (Effort: L, Impact: High)
- Add a definition block in the first viewport / first content section: "Planet Paaduks is an Indian vegan footwear brand (founded 2013, Mumbai) that makes sandals and slides from upcycled discarded tyres, cork, and vegan materials." (40–60 words, self-contained).
- Surface the flagship stat in extractable text: "Planet Paaduks has upcycled over 15 lakh kg of used tyres into footwear." (cite ANI / The Business Press).
- Add a short "Why upcycled-tyre soles?" explainer block with the biodegradable-sole claim and founding year.
- Add an FAQ section (natural-language Q&A) covering: Are Planet Paaduks shoes really vegan? What are the soles made of? Are they durable? What's the return policy? 7-day return is a common friction point surfaced in Meta ads — answering it on-page builds trust extraction.
P1 — Add review + FAQ + breadcrumb schema (Effort: L–M, Impact: High)
- Enable a reviews app emitting
aggregateRatingJSON-LD on PDPs (Judge.me / Loox with schema). Currently AI sees all products as unreviewed. - Inject
FAQPageschema mirroring the on-page FAQ. - Inject
BreadcrumbListschema site-wide (Sandals → Cork → Men).
P2 — Win the category & comparison queries competitors own (Effort: M, Impact: High)
- Publish definitive guides structured for extraction: "Best Vegan Sandals in India (2026): Materials, Price, Durability Compared" — include a comparison table (Planet Paaduks vs GreenSole vs Neeman's vs mass brands) with columns for material, price band, vegan status, tyre-upcycling. Comparison articles are the #1 AI-cited format (~33%).
- Publish a "Sandals Made From Recycled Tyres" explainer + buying guide (the brand owns this exact phrase in press but not in its own indexed content).
- Publish a "Planet Paaduks vs Neeman's" comparison page (currently the branded-compare query returns no brand-authored comparison; competitors capture it).
- Cover the query fan-out cluster around each: pricing, durability, sizing, gifting, monsoon/waterproof — one comprehensive page per parent topic beats narrow per-keyword pages.
P3 — Refresh stale blog content (Effort: M, Impact: Medium)
- The gifting guide is dated 2022-01-08 with no
dateModified. Add "Last updated" dates, refresh stats, and adddateModifiedto Article schema. AI systems down-weight stale content. - Add author bios with credentials (Amit Jain / Aparajit Sangotra) to every post for E-E-A-T — author name is already in schema; add a byline bio block.
P4 — Strengthen third-party presence (Effort: H, Impact: Medium–High)
- The skill's research: brands are 6.5× more likely to be cited via third-party sources than their own domain. The brand already appears on Demandeals, ANI, ContentPedia, Suspire, The Business Press. Build on this:
- Pursue a Wikipedia / Wikidata entity (currently none found) — high citation leverage.
- Authentic participation in Reddit (r/IndianFootwear, r/sustainablefashion) and Quora "best vegan shoes India" threads.
- Expand YouTube (only 51 subscribers / 85 videos) — YouTube is frequently cited by Google AI Overviews; the existing video library is under-leveraged.
- Pitch comparison/listicle roundups (Lifestyle Asia, DemandDeals already feature the brand — extend to more).
P5 — Optional: add /pricing.md (Effort: L, Impact: Low)
- UCP already serves structured pricing to agents, so this is low priority. If added, list price bands (₹690–₹3,978), MRP-vs-selling framing, free-shipping threshold, and link from
llms.txt.
7. What NOT to Do (per Google's AI optimization guide)
- Do not write separate "for AI" content — the homepage definition block and FAQs above should serve humans first; they're normal good copy.
- Do not chunk pages into AI-bait fragments — keep normal heading/paragraph structure.
- Do not block AI crawlers — already correct; keep it that way.
- Do not keyword-stuff — the Princeton GEO study shows it reduces AI visibility by ~10%.
8. Verification Notes
- Schema verified by
curlof raw HTML + regex overapplication/ld+jsonblocks (not markdown-extraction, which strips<script>). Per-page @types listed in §3. - robots.txt, llms.txt, agents.md, .well-known/ucp, pricing.md status verified by live HTTP requests on 2026-08-27.
- Query visibility verified via live Google SERP proxy (web_search) on 2026-08-27.
- Body-text extractability verified by stripping nav/
<script>/<style>and inspecting headings + first 220 chars per page.
