AEO / GEO Audit
Confidential Couture — AI SEO / AEO Audit (Answer Engine Optimization)
Prepared: 2026-08-15 | Domain: confidentialcouture.com | Method: live robots/llms/agents checks (curl), raw-HTML schema verification (saved HTML), AI-visibility query fan-out (web search). Context from business-analysis.md.
0. TL;DR — What This Means for a Pre-Owned Luxury Store
Confidential Couture is in an unusual position: it has some of the most advanced agentic-commerce infrastructure of any Shopify store (UCP, MCP, llms.txt, agents.md) yet is nearly invisible to answer engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews) for the queries that matter most.
Two separate problems, don't confuse them:
- Transactional agent readiness (strong): "buy-for-me" agents can already discover, price, cart, and (with buyer approval) check out via UCP/MCP. This is ahead of competitors.
- Citation / answer visibility (weak): CC is NOT being cited when people ask AI "what's the best pre-owned luxury site in India," "where to buy authenticated pre-loved bags," or "how to spot a fake Chanel." Competitors (Luxepolis, Retag, The RealReal, The Luxury Closet) and generic brand sites own those answers.
This report fixes problem #2. The fixes below are about being named as a source in AI-generated answers, not about enabling transactions.
1. AI Visibility Audit — Current State
1a. Query Fan-Out (what AI search surfaces today)
Tested via web search as a proxy for what AI engines retrieve. "Cited?" = CC appears in top results; "Competitors cited" = who owns the answer.
| # | Query (intent) | CC visible? | Who owns the answer |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | buy pre-owned luxury handbags India authentic | NO | The RealReal, The Luxury Closet, LV/Chanel official |
| 2 | sell pre-owned designer bags India instant buyout | YES (#1, homepage) | CC dominates seller intent |
| 3 | best pre-owned luxury resale sites India | NO | Retag, Second Movement, Ziniosa, Luxepolis |
| 4 | confidential couture vs luxepolis | PARTIAL | Only via Trustpilot/ET mentions; no own comparison page |
| 5 | how to spot fake Chanel bag authentication guide | NO | baghunter, legitapp, luxuryevermore |
| 6 | pre owned luxury bags EMI easy installment India | YES (#1, homepage) | CC owns EMI/financing intent |
| 7 | used luxury watches India Rolex pre owned buy | NO | Chrono24, Second Movement, Ethos |
Reading the pattern:
- CC wins seller-side queries ("sell…", "EMI…") — its consignment/instant-buyout/EMI value props are well-indexed.
- CC loses buyer-side discovery ("buy…", "best…", "how to…", "vs…") — exactly the top-of-funnel where AI Overviews and ChatGPT answers decide consideration sets.
- For a two-sided marketplace, losing buyer discovery to AI answers is the bigger revenue risk: buyers arrive with no brand in mind and leave with a competitor's name.
1b. Third-Party Presence (the #1 AI-trust signal)
Per the GEO research, brands are 6.5x more likely to be cited via third-party sources than their own domain. CC's third-party footprint is thin:
| Source | Status | Risk |
|---|---|---|
| Wikipedia | None found | High — no entity anchor for "what is Confidential Couture" |
| Trustpilot | 4-star, 17 reviews | Low density vs Luxepolis (236). AI cites review counts as trust. |
| Reddit / Quora | Not surfaced | Untapped — authentic community presence |
| Press (Forbes, ET, BoF, Business Standard) | Strong mentions | Good, but unstructured; AI rarely quotes a press roundup directly |
| YouTube (27.5K subs, 399 videos) | Active | Under-leveraged for "how to authenticate" queries AI Overviews love |
2. AI Bot Access Check — PASS (with one gap)
robots.txt was fetched live. Findings:
| Check | Result |
|---|---|
| GPTBot / ChatGPT-User blocked? | No — Allow: / for *; no AI-bot disallows |
| PerplexityBot blocked? | No |
| ClaudeBot / anthropic-ai blocked? | No |
| Google-Extended blocked? | No |
| Bingbot blocked? | No |
| CCBot (Common Crawl, training-only) | Not explicitly blocked — acceptable |
Verdict: All citation-enabling crawlers are permitted. No action needed — and importantly, CC is NOT accidentally blocking its own AI visibility the way many sites do.
Machine-readable files at root (live HTTP check):
| File | Status | Note |
|---|---|---|
/robots.txt | 200 | Excellent, agent-aware comments block |
/llms.txt | 200 | Present — but oriented to transactional agents, not answer citation |
/agents.md | 200 | Present — Shopify auto-generated, UCP/MCP focus |
/.well-known/ucp | 200 | UCP merchant profile present |
/api/ucp/mcp | 200 (POST) | MCP endpoint present |
/pricing.md | 404 | GAP — see §4 |
/pricing.txt | 404 | GAP |
The agentic-commerce files (llms.txt, agents.md, UCP, MCP) are transaction-focused. They help a "buy-for-me" agent purchase, but they do nothing to make CC the cited answer when a user asks an informational query. That requires content + schema + third-party presence (§3–§5).
3. Schema Markup Verification (raw HTML, not markdown-stripped)
Verified via raw <script type="application/ld+json"> in saved HTML + live curl. Each page type differs — checked separately per the skill's requirement.
| Page type | Schema present | Gaps |
|---|---|---|
| Homepage | WebPage with mainEntity: Organization | No FAQPage, no BreadcrumbList. Organization is embedded in WebPage, not standalone. |
| Product (PDP) | Product (name, image, description, sku, mpn, brand, offers, additionalProperty) | No aggregateRating / review despite Judge.me installed. No BreadcrumbList. |
| Collection | 1 JSON-LD block (type not a structured ItemList/comparison) | No faceted/comparison schema |
| Blog post | NONE (Article/BlogPosting count = 0) | Critical gap — 60+ posts invisible to AI as structured content |
| About / Contact | WebPage only | No Organization/LocalBusiness/ContactPoint detail |
Key schema deficits (ranked by AI-visibility impact):
- Blog posts have zero Article/BlogPosting schema. CC's 60+ "how to spot a fake," brand guides, and sustainability posts are its strongest citation asset (informational intent = exactly what AI Overviews cite) yet they carry no machine-readable author/date/topic. Fix first.
- PDPs lack
aggregateRating+review. Judge.me is installed but review data isn't emitted asReview/AggregateRatingJSON-LD. AI engines read products as "unreviewed" — a trust penalty for high-ticket (₹30k–₹9.5L) purchases. - No
BreadcrumbListanywhere. AI uses breadcrumbs to understand category hierarchy ("Handbags > Chanel > Classic Flap"). Missing on a 4,165-SKU catalog. - No
FAQPageschema. FAQ blocks are the single highest-yield AI citation structure; CC has none marked up. - Organization only via WebPage.mainEntity. Acceptable, but a standalone
Organizationwith founder names, founded date (2014), addresses (Delhi/Mumbai), and sameAs social links would strengthen entity recognition.
4. Machine-Readable Gap — /pricing.md
/pricing.md and /pricing.txt both return 404. The skill calls opaque/JS-hidden pricing a top citation killer for non-Google AI engines and autonomous buying agents.
CC's catalog is price-diverse (₹5,800–₹95,00,000) with EMI, layaway, buy-back, and COD (₹300) mechanics. A simple /pricing.md would let Perplexity/Claude agents answer "does Confidential Couture offer EMI on a ₹2L bag?" directly.
Recommended /pricing.md (draft):

## Selling to Confidential Couture
- Instant buyout: immediate cash at discounted price

Link it from the sitemap and the main pricing/EMI page. Note: UCP/MCP already serve live pricing to transactional agents; this file is for answer engines and human-readable AI citation, which is a different audience — keep both.
5. Optimization Strategy — Three Pillars
Pillar 1 — Structure (make content extractable)
Priority actions, ranked:
- Add
Article/BlogPostingschema to all 60+ blog posts. Author (named, e.g. founder/authentication team), published date, modified date, headline, mainEntity. This is the highest-ROI fix — it turns existing top-of-funnel content into citable answers. - Add
FAQPageschema to PDPs and key category/info pages with natural-language Q&A:- "Is Confidential Couture authentic?" → 100% guaranteed, in-house + ETP authentication
- "Do you offer EMI on luxury bags?" → Yes, easy EMI / 0% pay-after-30-days
- "Can I sell my designer bag?" → Instant buyout / consignment / express-sell
- "Do you deliver worldwide?" → Yes
- Emit
aggregateRating+ReviewJSON-LD from Judge.me on PDPs. Show star ratings to AI as structured trust. - Add
BreadcrumbListschema site-wide (home > category > brand > product). - Lead every blog post / PDP section with a direct 40–60 word answer before elaboration — AI extracts passages, not pages. CC's authentication and EMI posts should open with the verdict.
- Comparison tables for "X vs Y" and "brand guide" content (Chanel vs Hermès resale value, condition grades). Tables beat prose for AI extraction.
Pillar 2 — Authority (make content citable)
Per Princeton GEO research, ranking methods by visibility boost: cite sources (+40%), statistics (+37%), quotations (+30%), authoritative tone (+25%).
- Add statistics with dates to posts: "Founded 2014," "4,165 authenticated items," "100+ brands," "12 years / thousands of luxury stories." Original, specific numbers beat vague claims.
- Named expert attribution. Founder quotes (Anvita Mehra, CEO; Jharna Gianchandani, Co-Founder — both Istituto Marangoni) with titles. "According to Anvita Mehra, CEO…" framing.
- Build third-party presence (highest-leverage externally):
- Wikipedia: No page exists. A factual stub ("Confidential Couture — Indian pre-owned luxury resale founded 2014 by Anvita Mehra and Jharna Gianchandani") is the single biggest entity anchor for AI.
- Reddit/Quora: Authentic participation in r/India, r/handbags, "how to sell luxury in India" threads. 1.8% of ChatGPT citations are Reddit — small but real.
- Trustpilot density: 17 reviews vs Luxepolis 236. A review-request flow post-purchase lifts the count AI engines cite as trust.
- YouTube: 399 videos but not surfacing for "how to authenticate." Transcribe/summarize top authentication videos into blog posts with Article schema (Google AI Overviews cite YouTube heavily).
- Press as structured citations: The Forbes/ET/BoF mentions are strong but not link-structured for AI. A "As seen in" / press page with proper
Article/NewsArticlereferences helps.
Pillar 3 — Presence (be where AI looks)
- Cover the full topical cluster, not single keywords. For "buy pre-owned luxury," ensure the site answers the fan-out variants too: authentication, EMI, sell-back, brand guides, condition grades, worldwide shipping, vs-competitor. CC's blog already touches these — surface them with internal links and schema.
- Create a "Best / Compare" hub page: "Pre-Owned Luxury in India: Brands, Price Tiers & How to Buy Authentic" — comparison-article format is the most-cited content type (~33%). Directly targets query #3 ("best resale sites") where CC is absent.
- A "Confidential Couture vs [competitor]" page targeting query #4 — currently CC only appears via Trustpilot/ET, never its own comparison.
- Local entity signals: Ensure
Organization/LocalBusinessschema carries the Delhi HQ + Mumbai Bandra addresses and sameAs links to the 54K Instagram, 27.5K YouTube, 2,957 LinkedIn.
6. Content Types to Prioritize (citation share)
| Type | Share | CC action |
|---|---|---|
| Comparison articles | ~33% | Build "best resale sites India" + "vs competitor" hubs |
| Definitive guides | ~15% | Expand authentication & brand guides with schema |
| Original research/data | ~12% | Publish catalog stats (4,165 SKUs, price tiers, EMI) as citable data |
| Best-of/listicles | ~10% | "Top 10 authenticated bags under ₹1L" |
| Product pages | ~10% | Add review/rating schema (Pillar 1) |
| How-to guides | ~8% | "How to sell your designer bag" with step blocks + FAQ |
7. Monitoring (DIY, no tools)
Monthly manual check — pick the 7 queries in §1a, run each through ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google, log: Are you cited? Who is? Which page? Track month-over-month. Cross-platform tools (Peec AI, Otterly, ZipTie, LLMrefs) can automate but aren't required to start.
Google-specific: there is no AI-specific Search Console report — AI Overviews use core Search ranking, so standard GSC Performance/Coverage/Core Web Vitals remain the Google measurement surface.
8. What NOT to Do (per Google's AI guidance + GEO pitfalls)
- Don't write separate "for AI" content. Same content serves people and AI. Don't spin AI-bait variants (scaled-content-abuse risk).
- Don't chunk pages into AI fragments. Keep normal heading + paragraph structure.
- Don't block AI crawlers — already clear (§2). Keep it that way.
- Don't hide pricing behind JS — the 404
/pricing.mdis a gap; fix it, don't leave pricing only in JS-rendered PDPs. - Don't keyword-stuff — actively reduces AI visibility ~10% (GEO study). Write fluent, specific copy.
- Don't fake social proof — placeholder phone/address on policy pages erodes AI trust; verify all footer/contact links return 200.
- Don't confuse transactional-agent infra with answer visibility. UCP/MCP/llms.txt help agents buy; they do NOT make CC cited. Both tracks are needed; this audit addresses the citation gap.
9. Prioritized Action List
| Priority | Action | Effort | Impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| P0 | Add Article/BlogPosting schema to 60+ blog posts | Medium | High — unlocks top-of-funnel citation |
| P0 | Add FAQPage schema to PDPs + category/info pages | Low | High — highest-yield AI structure |
| P1 | Emit aggregateRating/Review JSON-LD from Judge.me | Low | Medium — trust for high-ticket |
| P1 | Create /pricing.md (404 today) | Low | Medium — agent + answer-engine pricing |
| P1 | Build "best resale sites India" + "vs competitor" hub pages | Medium | High — fills buyer-discovery gap |
| P2 | Add BreadcrumbList site-wide | Low | Medium — category understanding |
| P2 | Wikipedia stub + Reddit/Quora presence + Trustpilot density | Medium | High (external) — third-party citation |
| P2 | Named founder/expert attribution + dated statistics in content | Low | Medium — authority signals |
| P3 | Standalone Organization/LocalBusiness with sameAs + addresses | Low | Low–Med — entity recognition |
